From The Desk of Deacon Mike There are no words or thoughts to explain this horrible senseless murder.  We all know racism is alive in the USA and many are unwilling to do anything about it.   Pope Francis said this in the past about racism: “My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life.”

From the Diocese of Buffalo - Loving God, our hearts are troubled by the violence and hatred that surround us. We are called in this moment to wrestle with the devastation, grief, and fear that remain. We acknowledge the sinfulness of any act of racism, discrimination, or hatred, because we know it is not of you.  We repent of any part we may have had in allowing this evil to continue and ask your forgiveness for those times when we failed to support each other— when we failed to see you in our brothers and sisters. As your children, we seek your grace and the courage we need to demand dignity and justice for all people, regardless of race, creed, or color.  Heal us as your family in this tragic moment; may those affected by this horror in any way, whom we commend to you, remind us of the ten commandments you give us, and the greatest commandment of all—to love one another. Amen . Please spread the word.

Formed - In the next few months we will be introducing a program called Formed to the parish community.  Formed provides the very best Catholic content from more than 60 organizations to help parishes, families and individuals explore their faith anywhere. Supporting thousands of movies, children’s programs, ebooks, audio, parish programs and studies direct to your browser, mobile or connected device.  Deacon Mike will be talking about this soon.

Did you know - The Pope is protected by the Swiss Papal Guard. Wearing uniforms designed by Michelangelo and commonly armed with halberds, they are capable of using heavier weapons if needed. Each member is Catholic, male, and Swiss, and must complete military training in Switzerland. They must demonstrate good conduct and be at least five-foot-eight in height. In extreme circumstances, they are expected to guard the Holy Father with their lives. The Swiss Papal Guard is the oldest active military unit in continual existence since 1506.

Joke of the day - “Mom, are bugs good to eat?” asked the boy. “Let’s not talk about such things at the dinner table, son,” his mother replied. After dinner the mother inquired, “Now, baby, what did you want to ask me?” “Oh, nothing,” the boy said. “There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone.

-------------------------------------
