FROM THE DESK OF DEACON MIKE - Quite often we feel rushed, stressed out, always running out of time.  That is the time to slow down our lives.  When I feel that I am getting too busy here at St. Anthony’s, then it is time to stop and pray.  As the weather cools off as we move into the fall here are just a few thoughts that may help.
Listen to a bird singing.   Start to read a good book.  Step outside at night and listen to the wind blowing. Watch water flowing, leaves falling, squirrels scurrying. Pray a Hail Mary or Our Father just because.
Slow down and enjoy life!!!!!

Ministry Training in the Parish:  I invite you to pray about some of the Ministries in our Parish that you might be being called to.  Here is a list of trainings in the near future.

Eucharistic Ministers: Thursday, September 26th from 11-12:30  or                                                             Saturday September 28th 10-12:30

BLUE MASS -   On September 29th at the 9:00 am Mass we will be honoring the men and women of our City of Lackawanna who serve in the Police and Fire Departments.  Our prayer is a way to give back to these men and women who protect us and keep us safe.

Reminder:  When you are using space within the parish for a meeting or event, (hall or meeting room) remember to clean up after yourselves and take the trash to the dumpster right after.  It is all our job to keep our parish clean.

FAITH FORMATION - We are presently looking for a Teacher for our combined 7th and 8th grade classes on Sundays.  What a wonderful way to share your faith and help form the lives of our teenagers.  Give the rectory a call.

FROM THE DESK OF DEACON MIKE - Fatima Angel Prayer
The Angel of Fatima offered the three children this prayer.  It shows the two greatest commandments love of God and love of neighbor
“My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love Thee! I beg pardon for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love Thee.”

Retreat - I was on retreat this past week at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in New Jersey.  I spent most of it in silence listening to what God has to say.  I attended Mass for the anniversary of the fourth apparition with a few thousand others and on Wednesday we had a traditional Latin Mass in a smaller chapel. Cardinal Burke of Rome presided at both masses.  Quite a peaceful time.

Remember to keep the victims of the abuse in our Diocese in your prayers -VIRTUS is a program created by the National Catholic Risk Retention Group in the United States with a "Protecting God's Children" component that combats sexual abuse of children in the Church. Let us all remember this: one cannot proclaim the Gospel of Jesus without the tangible witness of one's life.--Pope Francis.

FROM THE DESK OF DEACON MIKE - You know how many amazing saints prayed the rosary every day and asked us to do the same?  St. Padre Pio, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Louis de Montfort,
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, St. John Paul II.   These men and women left an immeasurable impact on the world and all had devotions to Our Lady! The Blessed Mother is in the saint-making business and she wants you and me to be next!

Maybe make a point to say a decade a day and then work your way up to one set of mysteries each day. There’s a war going on for our souls, my friends, and we’re in the middle of the battle. Go to battle with the most powerful sword ever created: the holy rosary.

Shootings:  Let us continue to pray for the victims and their families from yet another week of violence in America.  While family members bury their loved ones, our government leaders will talk a good talk, but they will probably continue to hold out their hands for contributions from the gun lobbyists.

VIRTUS is a program created by the National Catholic Risk Retention Group in the United States with a "Protecting God's Children" component that combats sexual abuse of children in the Church. Let us all remember this: one cannot proclaim the Gospel of Jesus without the tangible witness of one's life.--Pope Francis.

UPON THIS ROCK - Once again you have shown your generosity in giving to UPON THIS ROCK.    Our share of the past six months came in this past week and we received $3540.39 from the Diocese of Buffalo Foundation.  We are so blessed with so many of you giving to this very important program.

Richard Sterling -   Many of you can remember the Photography Studio next to Lackawanna City Hall.  Dick Sterling, who was the owner, passed away a few days ago.  Keep his family in your prayers at this difficult time.

Faith Formation - We are presently looking for a Teacher for our combined 7th and 8th grade classes on Sundays.  What a wonderful way to share your faith and help form the lives of our teenagers.  Give the rectory a call.
